It's true that America's electorate is becoming younger, woker, less conservative, more dependent on government - and less Republican. But Democrats cannot yet take a victory lap. Both 2022 and 2024 will be brutal. Joe Biden wants to be a "transformative" president. The next two cycles will be referendums on the actual or potential transformations. Republicans possess three great advantages and are buoyed by one trend. First, density defeats demographics. GARDINER'S TEXTING TEMPEST IS ALL ABOUT REVENGE, REMAP
As it is said over and over, "it ain't over until it's over." That pithy redundancy, if applied to embattled 45th Ward alderman Jim Gardiner, could be construed as either terrific or terrible. Sure, Gardiner can rejoice knowing that objectionable and demeaning private texts, however revolting, have not yet been criminalized. It is still deemed free speech under the First Amendment, even though those abusive texts are misogynistic. This is not just a dust-up which will fade after the next news cycle, nor a just a temporary “challenge”; it is a “crisis” with what is called “legs.”In the short term, Gardiner's career is not over. LEFT, RIGHT FRINGE SOW DEMONIZATION, CREATE MALAISE
The Biden-Harris administration and Democratic congressional majority have allowed themselves to be pushed into embracing a leftist woke agenda under the pretext that it will cure the "Trump malaise." The pushers are the party's Left/socialist fringe - self-described "progressives" - led by the SQUAD in the House and Bernie Sanders in the Senate. The Squad is few in number, just 7, and were nominated in overwhelmingly Democratic districts with between 2 to 10 percent of the registered voters (RVs). They are adept at manipulating social media, and use the news media to demonize any critics. As is obvious, politics is no longer about finding a solution to a specific problem. It's about promoting an agenda, notwithstanding the fact that the solution may create attendant problems. Facts are eclipsed by feelings. Propaganda prevails. America must DO WHAT IS RIGHT - in their opinion - and anybody who disagrees is stupid, racist, sexist etc. Promoting one's ideology is paramount. "PETER PRINCIPLE" DICTATES CONGRESSIONAL OBEDIENCE, INSURES LONGEVITY
The "Peter Principle" is a theory popularized in the 1970s that posits that everybody's career is predicated on the premise that they continue to rise until they reach a level of incompetence and then no longer get promoted. Members of the U.S. House need not worry about their creeping incompetence. For them - and this applies to both parties - their version of the Peter Principle is they rise to their level of obedience. And an obedient congressman/woman either (1) has the campaign money to get re-elected in the short-term or (2) has the district to be safe in the long-term. Obedience equals longevity. Forget about intellectual creativity, independent thought, and perish the notion of bipartisanship. Just vote the party line, support/oppose the current administration and all will be well.
