2015 CULLERTON-SPOSATO RACE LOOMS IN 38TH WARD
John Arena resists being tabbed as "Alderman Anomaly." But when you win a runoff by 30 votes, as Arena did in the Northwest Side 45th Ward in 2011, it does not give opponents pause. Already, a sizeable field is forming for 2015, including John Garrido and Michelle Baert. Arena has occasionally voted against Mayor Emmanuel, and says he is "turning around" the ward, both economically and politically. Critics differ, claiming he's obsessed with self-promotion. There is skepticism that he has expanded his Portgage Park base into Jefferson Park and Gladstone Park. Full Article...

Mark Kirk's (R) U.S. Senate sent will be a top target in 2016. Mayor Emanuel has $1.9 million for re-election in 2015. The governor's race has begun, and upwards of $30 million will be spent in 2014; billionaire Bruce Rauner will self-fund, and Lisa Madigan has $4.4 million. Full Article...

33 MILLION NEW RETIREES WILL BUST U.S. BUDGET
33 million more retirees, in addition to the current 40 million social security/Medicare recipients by 2030? It's a prescription for fiscal disaster. No wonder politicians want a "pathway to citizenship" for 11 million "illegal" aliens. Somebody has to pay taxes. Remember this: Politics is always in flux. Today's "Obama Nation" will soon be rent asunder by generational issues - the retirees versus the workers. In every generation throughout U.S. history, politics has realigned and new parties and ideologies have emerged. Full Article...

NO MAYORAL OPPOSITION IN 45% OF SUBURBAN RACES
No opposition is the best opposition. On April 9, in 54 of Cook Countys' 120 suburban municipalities, the incumbent mayor or village president was unapprosed. That's 45%. The reason is twofold: Either the"ins" are doing such a splendid job, or they have so much money that a challenge is frivolous. In Rosemont, for example, Mayor Brad Stephens raised $868,834 and got 716 votes; in Skokie, Mayor George Van Dusen got 4,407 votes, and benefits from Democratic committeeman Lou Long's $1 million campaign fund. Incumbents were also unopposed in Evanston, Palatine and River Grove.Full Article...
