"ALIENATION FACTOR" CUTS DOWN LECHOWICZ, SUTKER

As the vote chart indicates, Lechowicz carried his old 30th Ward by 1,150 votes, and committeemen Patty Jo Cullerton and Tom Lyons carried their 38th and 45th wards for Lechowicz, respectively, by 660 and 458 votes. But Lechowicz lost the 39th  and 40th wards by a combined 289 votes, and carried Rostenkowski’s old 32nd ward by just 61 votes. In Lang’s Skokie-Lincolnwood-50th Ward 16th House District, Sutker won by 1,891 votes; but in the Evanston-based 18th House District, occupied by Schakowsky before going to Washington, Suffredin won by 5,335 votes. WOJCIK, DESPITE DEFEAT, LOOKS AT 38TH WARD BID

Wojcik lost the 33rd Ward by more than 2,000 votes, and won his home 30th Ward by only 1,727 votes. The white precincts in the current 30th Ward were appended onto the south part of the 39th Ward and onto the east end of the 38th Ward. Wojcik will run in the 38th Ward next year. To beat Allen, Wojcik would have to win 80-20 in his old 30th Ward precincts, and then energize the 38th Ward’s large Polish-American vote. Full Article...

BUGIELSKI'S PRECINCT ARMY INSURES BIG WIN - DON'T MESS WITH THE 36TH WARD

The Democratic incumbent in the 20th District, Ralph Capparelli, chose to run in the new 19th District, so Bugielski filed for the seat. Bugielski’s base is the 36th Ward; both Coconate and Giovannetti live in the 41st Ward. Giovannetti, a first-time candidate, split the non-Bugielski, anti-organization vote in the 41st Ward, effectively sinking Coconate. The McAuliffe-Doherty organization has plenty of workers in the 41st Ward. If Bugielski gets 40 percent of the 41st Ward vote, then he beats McAuliffe districtwide. Full Article...

"BIONIC MAN" eMANUEL TOPS ROSTENKOWSKI'S 1994 MARK

As can be discerned from the vote chart, Kaszak doubled her vote over 1996 in the 45th, 41st and 44th wards, and increased it by over 50 percent in the 38th, 39th and 47th wards.  Many liberal and Jewish votes recoiled from the Moskal incident, as is evident from Emanuel’s strong showing in the 40th (57.5 percent) and 39th (56.7 percent) wards, which have sizeable Jewish voter blocs, as well as in the Lakefront 43rd (59.1 percent), 44th (59.2 percent), and 46th (64.9 percent) wards, which have a huge liberal and Jewish voter base.
